Equifax Credit Freeze Hotline

Post by Vitek- »

Number: 800-349-9960

If you do this before Jan 2018 its free. They keep getting shit on and should probably disconnect from the internet. You call the number, provide some info, then they give you a pin that you must use to unfreeze your credit report when you apply for a loan or credit card.

There are three others as well if you want to be extra safe. If you put a freeze across all 4 you should be good, but these additional 3 are going to charge you a processing fee.

I've never felt the need to do anything like that.

Whenever I needed a loan, they just gave it to me without any questions other than where do you work, for how long, and how much I make.

Yes if someone tries to open up a credit line in your name (quebec mentioned how easy it is) then they will get denied because you froze queries to your report. Equifax got hacked via the Apache struts vulnerability and leaked 145 million personal records that's why they're waiving the processing fee for freezing your report.

Ah now I understand where you went with this lol

I tought you were saying to call them to unfreeze your credit in order to get a loan, but from what I understand, the goal would actually be to freeze your credit since their DB has been compromised?

Yes. I feel like it's safe to assume my information is compromised given that figure of 145mil, so I froze mine yesterday as per a co-workers recommendation.

Well, I feel relatively safe,

Yea they say a possibility of 145 mil's american might have been affected, but the Equifax Canada lowered their potential list to 8,000 canadians affected.

I somehow don't feel very threathened by that number.
