here's a good one if you dont know about it.

When the british were invading india/indonesia. they ran into a crazy mountain people around Nepal, that fought like beasts. after the fighting was done, both sides had gained great respect for each other, and came to an arrangement where these crazy mountain folk would fight for us.

thus was born the Brigade of Gurkhas, and you really do not want to mess with them.

they literally guard the crown jewels, and they are jolly little murderers lol.
they are completely loyal, and unbelievably deadly. they are very possibly the best soldiers in the world.

in addition to their standard equipment, every Gurkha also carries their traditional knife, the Kukri.

and they use them.

The Ether, is a defunct scientific theory about some sort of invisible dimension that connects everything.
Magic was supposedly manipulating the ether.

Miasma, is a defunct medical theory of bad smells that carry disease.
Hence the nursery rhyme "ring a ring of roses, a pocket full of poses". Poses were small bags of potpourri (dried perfumed flowers) held at the nose to prevent the miasma from getting in. the ring of roses is the ring shaped red bruising that was an early sign of the black death (bubonic plague).
a tissue, a tissue, we all fall down.

I/we in the US were taught this

Ring-a-round the rosie,
A pocket full of posies,
Ashes! Ashes!
We all fall down.

Some claim it has nothing to do with a plague.
“metafolklore” folklore about folklore.

if that's true then it's cool, but im not sure if it is.
might have something to do with WW2, and the Tommies vs the Gerries.

i think americans are a bit more sensitive tbh ;P
probably teach yas that cos it's a bit too hardcore for kids ;)

oh speaking of drinks.. a gin and tonic! the tonic wasn't to make the gin taste nicer, the gin was to make the tonic drinkable. because tonic water was made from quinin (aka jesuit bark), and was a cure for.... err... was it maleria or typhoid...? you get the idea though.
gin and tonic is horrible lol
