Did you know that,
116 years ago, after a long period of drought, a spark from a chimney caused a fire outbreak in Jacksonville, Florida which became known as the Great Fire of 1901. The spark ignited a pile of spanish moss that was drying nearby. Factory workers attempted to put out the fire with water buckets, but when the wind picked up, they lost control of it. Fire spread through the city at the same speed as a human can walk, culminating in the destruction of 146 city blocks, over 2,300 buildings burned to ashes, and more than 10,000 homeless. The glow from the flames could be seen from Georgia, and the smoke plumes in North Carolina.
