Trade Forum Rules - Trading

Post by Demise News Network »

This is the trade section of the trading post. Posts in this section should be offering specific items for specific items. If you want bidding, unspecific offers, or a set gold value, please use the selling section. If you are attempting to acquire an item, but do not have a specific offer for trade, then you should be using the buying section.

These are the Demise Trading Post forum rules.

Trade Forum Specific Rules
In addition to the general forum rules, these rules are to be followed when posting in any of the Demise Trade Forums.

1. Do not comment on other offers unless you are the seller. If you are not bidding or attempting to make the purchase/trade, then you should not be posting.

2. All messages within the trade forum must be related to the trade, sale, or price check requested by the seller. There is no need to comment to other players about their bids and there is no need to argue with the seller.

Serious discussion between buyers and sellers may be posted to further facilitate purchases or trades; however, posts/discussion not directly related to the current trade offer or request is not permitted. In the case of price check threads, please avoid making useless posts that do not lend themselves to the determination of the value of an item.

3. The topic of your trade forum post should indicate what you are wanting (buying, selling, price check, or trade) and what item is being offered or requested. This item/s must be an actual item on Demise (not TC).
Your post should stay on topic. A price check should not turn into a selling thread.

What the thread starts out as is how it should finish. If you want to sell an item you have a price check message on, create a new thread for selling the item.

4. Do not bump your message, or have someone bump your message, no less than three days after the original posting date or last bump date. Individuals who bump their threads illegally will be reprimanded and may have their thread removed.

Is it a bump? If your post is constructive and relevant to a trade which you are participating in, or constructive towards establishing the value of an item in a price check thread, then probably not.

If your post was useless, unnecessary, or for the sole purpose of drawing attention to your thread (in less than the 3 day bump allowance), then it probably is a bump.

Please be advised:
Just because you don't use the word "bump" doesn't mean it's okay to do it. There is a difference between useless posts done for the sake of trying to evade the no bumping rule, and posting relevant updates such as directly answering a question which has been asked. Of course, this only applies within reason. Obviously useless and/or excessive posting of "new" information will probably be interpreted as bumps, and get your thread deleted, as well as being used in determining the validity of your posts in the future. So, maintain some credibility here, and dont do it.

Do not use editing as an excuse to bump your thread. To avoid a situation where you have new items to offer, but you are afraid they wont get noticed, start a new thread or use your 3-day bump allowance to make others aware of the addition.

Do not bump threads for every item that gets sold either. You are permitted, obviously, to post that you have sold the item and are closing your thread, winning bid, etc., if you are actually indicating a complete closure of the thread. If you do make a "sold" post, moderators may close your thread to further posting, whether that was your intention or not.

If you have sold items from a list, you should indicated that the item is no longer available in the list of items in your original post. For example:

* axe of omguberness [ SOLD ] (PM sent!)
* bow of wtfleetness
* bandana of frogs

If your post has been up there for awhile and has had no replies, either nobody wants what you are selling or you need to try offering a better deal.

This rule must also clarify that you are not to simply repost a new message selling the same items less than 72 hours (3 days) from your first message. This is nothing more than a glorified bump which causes more forum clutter than is necessary. If you have an item that has not sold in 3 days, you may want to consider altering your post to make it more desirable. For example, being more specific about what you wish to recieve for it, or lowering your asking price.

Furthermore, when replying to offers in your thread, if there are multiple offers already awaiting your review, there is no point in making 5 different posts to answer 5 different people. Include all replies in a single post whenever possible, please.

5. Do not hijack someone else's thread and offer your own items for sale/purchase. This form of trading is unacceptable.

If you want to sell your items or buy something at a higher price than someone else, make your own thread. You may not make such posts as "I'll sell that for less! PM me!" Start your own thread making NO mention of other sellers.

There is no need to hijack someone else's message in order to make them lose their purchase or sale.

6. You may not post cross server trades, mention other servers in any way or involve real life cash or items ever. You may not transfer accounts because this violates our no sharing rule. You may not "trade" non-tangible items such as knowledge of a greatly worn or IDOC house. All of this is meant to protect our users and will be thoroughly enforced.

7. Do not cross post items between trade forums. Cross posting items between forums will result in all posts being deleted. You are not selling and trading the same item. If you would like to offer and item for sale or trade, please post it in the selling section.

8. Do not offer unwanted items. Sure, from time to time when someone states what they may be interested in, there may be things they have not thought of, and may be willing to entertain other offers. But, when someone specifically says they do not want certain specific things, do not offer them. Read the entire offer/request before posting.
